Greek Police: Serious incidents of crime and violations in Zakynthos

​Two separate cases occupied the police authorities in Zakynthos on August 1, 2025, confirming the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement forces on the island.

The arrest of two foreigners for drugs and weapons being the first case.

During a coordinated operation, the Narcotics Sub-Directorate of the Organized Crime Directorate proceeded to arrest two foreigners, who were allegedly active in the possession and trafficking of narcotics in Zakynthos. The arrests were made in the early hours of Friday, August 1st, following information and a thorough analysis.

During the search of their home, the police located and seized two nylon packages with a total of 270 grams of raw cannabis, which was estimated to be intended for trafficking. At the same time, weapons of particular concern were also found in the same house, as they were seized:

- A single-barreled automatic rifle with a modified barrel and an altered serial number,

-A flash-bang pistol with a magazine and 9 9mm cartridges,

-A revolver air rifle,

-31 shotgun cartridges,

-A folding knife with a total length of 22 centimeters,

-Pepper spray.

The two arrested individuals had previously been in the police's sights for similar and other offenses and are now facing serious charges related to both drugs and illegal possession of weapons. The case file has been forwarded to the competent prosecutor's office.

The second case concerned an arrest due to noise pollution in the area of  Laganas

A few hours later, and specifically at 02:07 in the morning of Saturday, August 2, another incident of delinquency occurred, this time in the tourist resort of Laganas. Police officers from the Zakynthos Department proceeded to arrest a local, who is accused of playing music that exceeded the permissible noise pollution limits.

The incident is part of the intensive controls carried out during the summer season in tourist areas, with the aim of protecting residents and ensuring the smooth operation of businesses.

Police preparedness ahead of August

The above cases highlight the constant vigilance of the police force in Zakynthos, especially during a period of increased traffic due to the tourist season. The suppression of organized crime, ensuring public safety and enforcing legality in entertainment venues are key priorities of the authorities.
